Widowed and left to care for three children with no income, Maame Esi faced daily struggles to provide basic needs like food, shelter and school fees for her family in a community near Tarkwa. Her survival often depended on the goodwill of neighbors but her dream was simple: to stand on her own feet and build something that could sustain her family.

In 2023, AF provided her with a microgrant designed to empower women like Maame Esi. This intervention enabled her to start a small provision shop. Stocking household essentials and fabrics, she turned the shop into a reliable source of income.

Today, Maame Esi not only supports her children’s education and daily needs but is also saving to expand her building project and the business. Her story exemplifies the power of women’s economic empowerment in creating resilient families.
